Army Chief Asim Munir has taken over the post of the country’s first Chief of Defense Force (CDF) on Thursday (27 November 2025) and this is the reason why despite the increasing speculations about the death of Imran Khan in Pakistan, no one is mustering the courage to question Asim Munir. Even Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif and President Asif Ali Zardari are seen bowing before Munir.
Law and order at stake in Pakistan
Rumors have been circulating in Pakistan for several days that former Prime Minister Imran Khan has been tortured, seriously injured or even murdered in Rawalpindi’s Adial Jail. Despite the court order, Imran Khan was not produced in public nor was he allowed to meet his family or lawyers. Security arrangements have been increased outside the jail, due to which suspense has increased among the people regarding the murder of Imran Khan.
Imran Khan’s party will hold nationwide demonstrations
Keeping in view the security of the jail, 2,500 additional security personnel have been deployed there. Police and paramilitary forces are fully equipped with anti-riot equipment. Similar alerts have been issued for Kot Lakhpat Jail in Lahore and Central Jail near Quetta. All this is happening at a time when Imran Khan’s party PTI is preparing to protest outside Adiyal Jail and Islamabad High Court. Control of Pakistan is now in the hands of Munir
In a country with a normal constitutional system, if any harm is done to any former Prime Minister in custody, an investigation is immediately started, but in the context of Pakistan it is the opposite. Here the key to power is in the hands of Field Marshal-turned-newly appointed CDF Syed Asim Munir, whose power has been increased by amending the Constitution. The main objective of this amendment is the complete restructuring of the high defense system of Pakistan.
Under this, Asim Munir is now the head of all three forces i.e. Army, Air Force and Navy for the next five years. Apart from this, Munir has been made in-charge of the Nuclear Weapon System. The overall control of the three armies has also been removed from the President and the Cabinet and handed over to the CDF. If the rumors spreading about Imran Khan prove to be true or he is murdered, then the biggest question will be who has control over the security system.
No one can do any harm to Munir in PAK
The question will also arise that who benefited from keeping Imran Khan in jail for so many days. The 27th Amendment has been designed in such a way that even a political shock like detaining Pakistan’s most popular opposition leader will not be able to shake the person (Asim Munir) who is now sitting at the helm of the country’s security system. Now, like the President, Munir also has lifelong immunity from any legal case.
