The Russian Defense Ministry said on Saturday (October 25, 2025) that on Friday (October 24, 2025) Russian air defense systems shot down 281 Ukrainian drones, nine of which were hovering over Moscow. The ministry said in a statement, ‘The air defense system has shot down two guided aerial bombs and 281 fixed-wing unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).’
According to the report of Xinhua news agency, the Defense Ministry said on Friday that Russian air defense systems shot down 1,441 Ukrainian UAVs last week. The air defense system shot down one Ukrainian Su-27 aircraft, four cruise missiles, 18 guided aerial bombs, 15 rocket projectiles of the American HIMARS multiple launch rocket system, as well as 1,441 fixed-wing UAVs, the ministry said in a statement.
Ukrainian Air Force claimed the attack
According to the Ukrainian Air Force, Russia launched 62 drones and nine missiles during the overnight attack on Ukraine. Air defense units shot down 50 drones and four missiles. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said the city was targeted by ballistic missiles.
Timur Tkachenko, head of the Kyiv City Military Administration, said on social media that the attack sparked fires in several areas, broke windows in residential buildings and damaged a kindergarten in the eastern part of the city.
Dam damaged in attack by Ukrainian armed forces
Meanwhile, a local official said on Saturday that a dam built on a local reservoir in Belgorod, Russia, has been damaged in an attack by Ukrainian armed forces. “We understand that the enemy may try to launch another attack to destroy the dam,” Belgorod Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov said on social media. If this happens, there will be a risk of flooding of the river flood plain from the Kharkiv region and many streets of our settlement, where about 1,000 residents live.
He said that in view of the threat of flooding, the regional government is starting to provide temporary shelter in Belgorod to residents who are at risk of flooding and who have no other option. On Friday, Gladkov said that Belgorod was attacked by 47 drones, of which 35 were shot down and disabled. Nine civilians were injured, including a 12-year-old boy.
