Kiev, the capital of Ukraine, was frightened in the early hours of Saturday (27 December 2025) when sounds of loud explosions were heard one after the other. The sleeping city suddenly woke up with sirens and explosions. Ukrainian officials immediately issued a warning, saying that there was a serious threat of a missile attack on the capital and that security agencies were in full alert mode.
Kyiv Mayor Vitaly Klichko alerted citizens through telegram. He said that explosions have been recorded in the city and the air defense system is working actively. The Mayor said in clear words that all citizens should stay in safe places and underground shelters. Soon after this, emergency sirens started ringing across the city and people were seen running towards bunkers to save their lives.
Air alert across Ukraine, movement of drones and missiles in the sky
The Ukrainian Air Force also declared air alert in the capital as well as in many parts of the country. According to official information, activity of drones and missiles was recorded in many areas. International journalists present at the spot said that a bright flash was seen in the sky of Kiev, accompanied by the sounds of powerful explosions. This scene created an atmosphere of fear and chaos in the city.

This development has come to light at a time when Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is going to meet President Donald Trump in America. This meeting is considered very important for the future of Russia-Ukraine war. According to sources, in this conversation issues like possible ways to stop the war, American mediation and ceasefire can be discussed. In this war that has been going on since 2022, there has been huge loss of life and property and lakhs of people have been forced to leave their homes.
Russia’s allegation, questions raised on peace efforts
Meanwhile, Russia has made serious allegations against Ukraine and its European allies. Moscow says that Zelensky and the European Union are deliberately trying to weaken the peace initiative presented by America. Russia claims that instead of ending the war, Western countries want to prolong it so that strategic pressure can be maintained.
