Sakat Chauth Puja Mantra

Sakat Chauth Puja Method
- On the day of Sakat Chauth fast, wake up before sunrise and take bath by adding sesame seeds to the bath water.
- In the morning, pay obeisance to Lord Ganesha and take a pledge to fast.
- First of all, after bathing the idol of Lord Ganesha with Panchamrit, offer fruits, red flowers, Akshat, Roli, Mauli.
- Then offer things made of sesame and laddus made of sesame and jaggery.
- Praise Lord Ganesha, chant Ganesha mantra – ‘Om Ganeshay Namah’ 108 times.
- Recite Sakat Chauth fast story. Ask for forgiveness from Ganpati ji for the mistake made during worship.
- When the moon rises, offer Arghya to the moon and then take blessings of the elders and then break the fast.
Sakat Chauth fast story
According to the legend, there was a sister-in-law and a sister-in-law. Her husband was her real brother. The elder brother was very rich and the younger brother was very poor. The younger brother earned his living by selling wood, which was used for the kitchen.
The younger brother’s wife was a great devotee of Lord Ganesha and observed the fast every Sankashti Chaturthi. To support her family, she also worked in her elder sister-in-law’s house.
Once upon a time, on the day of Sakat Chauth, my sister-in-law had nothing to cook. That is why she worked hard at her sister-in-law’s house so that she could get some money on the auspicious occasion of Sakat Chauth, but her sister-in-law refused to give her the remuneration on the day of puja and said that she would give the remuneration to her sister-in-law only on the next day of the puja. The sister-in-law returned home tired and empty handed. Due to this injustice, Lord Ganesha became angry with his sister-in-law.
When the sister-in-law’s husband returned from work in the evening, the wife was unable to serve food. The husband was also angry because no one had purchased wood on the day of Sakat Chauth. The husband beat his wife in anger for not cooking food. The unhappy wife went to sleep without eating.
Lord Ganesha himself came to his house at night. When he asked to open the door, it seemed to him that this was his dream. Sister-in-law said that there is nothing like locking in our house, all the doors are open, you come. Lord Ganesha entered the house and asked for food from the sister-in-law. The sister-in-law said that she had cooked Bathua in the morning, that is what was kept on the stove.
Please accept that after consuming Bathua, Lord Ganesha said that he wanted to defecate. The sister-in-law replied – “All the five places of the house, that is, the four corners and the doors, are open for you.” After this, Lord Ganesha asked for something to wipe. The hungry and angry sister-in-law said, “You can use my head only.”
The next day when the sister-in-law woke up, she saw that her forehead, all the four corners of the house and the entrance etc. were filled with precious diamonds, gold and jewellery. Then she realized that it was not a dream, in fact Lord Ganesha himself had come to bless her family. She went to her sister-in-law’s house to ask for scales to weigh this immense wealth.
Elder sister-in-law had applied glue under the scale. When the sister-in-law returned the scale, some jewelery was stuck on it due to which the sister-in-law came to know the truth. On repeated requests of the sister-in-law, the sister-in-law narrated the entire incident of Ganesh ji’s arrival at her house to the sister-in-law.
To acquire wealth like her sister-in-law, the sister-in-law started working in her sister-in-law’s house. The next year, the sister-in-law repeated the same procedure as the sister-in-law, and even got herself beaten by her husband on the day of Sakat Chauth to get the same results as the sister-in-law had.
Everything happened as per plan, but instead of wealth, feces and foul smell had spread throughout the house. The stool was not getting removed even after the sister-in-law cleaned it in various ways. The pundits advised that if the sister-in-law divides her property equally with her sister-in-law, then the curse of Lord Ganesha can be mitigated.
Sister-in-law did the same, but the smell and feces did not go away. Then it came to light that the sister-in-law had not shared a necklace with the sister-in-law. Sister-in-law distributed it also. By the grace of Lord Ganesha, her sister-in-law also became full of happiness and prosperity like her sister-in-law.
