Salary of Deputy CM: A new government has been formed in Bihar. All the new ministers including Nitish Kumar have taken oath. Now the question is, what is the salary of Deputy CM? Do they get paid more than cabinet ministers or not? For this reason, we give you the answer to the curiosity raised regarding their salary and facilities.

How much salary does the Deputy CM get?

The post of Deputy CM is always in the headlines in the politics of Bihar, but the interesting thing is that Deputy CM is a symbolic post, which is not mentioned anywhere in the Constitution. This clearly means that just as an ordinary minister gets salary, allowances and facilities, the Deputy CM also gets the same facilities. No extra payment nor any separate category in the salary, no matter how great the political weight.

What is the salary of a minister?

If we talk about the income received every month, then this structure is already decided in Bihar. According to the information released by the Chief Minister’s Secretariat, the basic salary of any minister is Rs 65,000 per month. Apart from this, a regional allowance of Rs 70,000 is also given, which is given considering the responsibilities and regional activities of the minister.

How many allowances do you get?

The daily allowance is also quite high, at Rs 3,500 per day, which is earmarked as expenses incurred during day-to-day government operations. Along with this, the Minister of State and Deputy Minister are given guest allowance of Rs 29,500 and Rs 29,000 respectively. Hospitality allowance is around Rs 20,000 every month. Including all these allowances, the total monthly income of a minister reaches around Rs 2.5 lakh.

The Deputy CM also gets exactly the same, neither less, nor more. Therefore, there is no difference in the salary of ministers and deputy CMs.

There was a change in April

A major change was made in April 2025, in which the cabinet had decided to increase the salaries and allowances of ministers by 30 percent. Earlier the basic salary was Rs 50,000, regional allowance was Rs 55,000 and daily allowance was Rs 3,000. The guest allowance was also less, but the current amount came into effect only after revision. This structure is considered effective after the order of the Cabinet Secretariat.

other facilities

Apart from salary, ministers and Deputy CMs also get many facilities, such as government vehicles, drivers, accommodation, security, official staff and other office related facilities. All these are prescribed under the Ministers (Salary and Allowances) Act 2006.
