Netflix strongly opposed the defamation suit filed by IRS officer Sameer Wankhede in Delhi High Court. This case has been filed regarding the alleged negative image of Wankhede being shown in Netflix’s web series The Badass of Bollywood.
During the hearing in Delhi High Court, the lawyer appearing for Netflix said that it is not easy to prove defamation in such cases and it can be decided only after trial.
He argued that merely saying that the show The Badass of Bollywood has been made by Shahrukh Khan’s son Aryan Khan is not enough to prove defamation. Sameer Wankhede will have to prove malice.
Inquiry and allegations against Sameer Wankhede are in public domain since 2022 – Lawyer
The lawyer appearing for Netflix said that the inquiry and allegations against Sameer Wankhede are available in the public domain since the year 2022 but they did not take any legal action then. In such a situation, it would not be appropriate to issue an interim order. The lawyer said that Wankhede himself says that he has no problem with media criticism, then how can he object to a one and a half minute satirical part of the series.
Sameer Wankhede opposed the argument of Netflix’s lawyer
Sameer Wankhede has claimed in the Delhi High Court that the series has been deliberately made in such a way that his image is tarnished. It was also said that after saying Satyamev Jayate, a character showed an indecent gesture which is a violation of the laws related to national honour.
The court has asked Wankhede’s legal team to present information about orders related to ED and CBI investigation. Now the next hearing of the case will be on Tuesday.
