The month of September brings the beginning of festivals in India. This year too, the September calendar is full of many big and special occasions. Festivals like Onam, Eid-e-Milad, Navratri establishment and Durga Puja will be celebrated in different parts of the country. Festivals also have a direct impact on the school holidays. While the children wait for these holidays, the parents also prepare to make these days special by planning.
As soon as the beginning of September, the celebration of colorful festival Onam will begin in Kerala. Onam will be celebrated on 4 and 5 September this year. It is called the festival of the crop and it is celebrated in memory of Lord Mahabali. Pukalam (flower decoration), Vallakali (boat race) and traditional feast “Onasadya” are organized in the houses. These days there are holidays in schools in Kerala and surrounding states. This time for children is full of enthusiasm and cultural colors.
Eid-e-Milad
Soon after Onam, the festival of Eid-e-Milad i.e. Milad-un-Nabi will be celebrated on 5 and 6 September. This day is celebrated as the birthday of Hazrat Muhammad, Prophet of the religion of Islam. Schools are likely to be closed on this occasion in states like Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. Processions, special prayers and religious programs are organized on this day. There is also a two -day holiday in many places.
Navratri
Navratri, the festival of devotion to Maa Durga from the third week of September, will begin. This year Navratri will be established on 22 September. From this day, the installation of Kalash and worship of Goddess starts in the houses. Many states have school holidays on this day so that families can participate in religious rituals. Especially in the states of North India, special preparations are made on this occasion.
Durga puja
Durga Puja, the country’s most grand festival will be celebrated in the last week of September. There will be a celebration of Mahashtami on 29 September and Mahashtami on 30 September. Schools will remain closed these days in states like West Bengal, Assam, Odisha and Tripura. Durga Puja is not just a religious event but also a cultural festival. The beautiful decoration of the pandals, the voice of the dhaka and the traditional dance-songs make this festival special. This time is very memorable for children because they get an opportunity to enjoy the festival with family and friends with long holidays.
