Schools will remain closed in Jharkhand’s capital Ranchi till January 10. The administration has taken this decision amidst the warning of cold wave. It says that all schools will remain closed till January 10. The administration in Jharkhand’s Ranchi district on Thursday (January 8) directed that all schools will remain closed till January 10 in view of the cold wave warning from the India Meteorological Department (IMD). An official said that this order applies to all categories of schools running in Ranchi.
The order said, “All classes from KG to Class 12 in all government, non-government, aided, unaided (including minority) and all private schools running under Ranchi district will remain closed till January 10.”
Yellow alert issued for 13 districts including Ranchi
It said that this decision has been taken keeping in mind the health and safety of the students. Earlier, an order was issued to keep schools closed till January 8. IMD has issued ‘Yellow Alert’ (updated) of cold wave for 13 districts including Ranchi till 8.30 am on Friday. Other districts that are likely to experience cold wave conditions include Garhwa, Palamu, Chatra, Hazaribagh, Latehar, Lohardaga, Ramgarh, Bokaro, Gumla, Khunti, Simdega and West Singhbhum.
No change in minimum temperature likely
Abhishek Anand, Deputy Director of Ranchi Meteorological Centre, said, ‘Cold conditions have arisen in Jharkhand due to north-westerly wind in the lower troposphere level. The minimum temperature is likely to remain unchanged for the next two days and after that it may increase by three degrees Celsius during the next three days.
Lowest temperature recorded in Hazaribagh
Hazaribagh recorded the state’s lowest temperature of 2.9 degrees Celsius, while Khunti, Daltonganj and Lohardaga recorded 3.2, 3.4 and 3.6 degrees Celsius respectively. The minimum temperature in Ranchi, the capital of Jharkhand, was recorded at eight degrees Celsius, while in Bokaro and Chaibasa it was recorded at 6.4 and 6.5 degrees Celsius respectively. Anand said that a cold wave warning has also been issued for nine districts – Garhwa, Palamu, Chatra, Latehar, Hazaribagh, Lohardaga, Ramgarh, Bokaro and Gumla from 8.30 am on Friday till the same time the next day.
