Seat-sharing agreement has been signed with seven alliance parties for the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly elections 2026 to be held on 23 April 2026.
How many seats will BJP contest in Tamil Nadu?
According to the agreement made between NDA regarding seats, BJP will field its candidates on 27 seats. Whereas Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) will contest on 18 seats, Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK) on 11 seats, Tamil Maanila Congress (TMC) on 5 seats, Indiya Jannayak Katchi (IJK) on 2 seats, Tamilaga Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (TMMK) on 1 seat and Puratchi Bharatam on 1 seat.

AIADMK released the first list of candidates
The main opposition party in Tamil Nadu, AIADMK, has released its first list of 23 candidates on March 25. In this, party chief K. Palaniswami was made a candidate again from Edappadi seat in Salem district. AIADMK in its first list K. P. Munusamy, Dindigul C. Srinivasan and Natham R. The tickets of senior party leaders including Vishwanathan have been retained. Prominent leaders of the western region S. P. Velumani and P. Thangamani have been made candidates from Thondamuthur and Kumarapalayam respectively.
Voting will take place on 23 April
According to the Election Commission of India, voting will be held in Tamil Nadu in a single phase on April 23. The nomination process will start from March 30, while the results will be declared on May 4. As the election process is progressing, all the political parties in the state have intensified their activities. Special attention is being given to alliance, candidate selection and reaching out to voters.
AIADMK (AIADMK) general secretary and former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami is going to resume his election campaign from Wednesday (25 March), which will further intensify the political battle for the assembly elections in Tamil Nadu. According to party sources, AIADMK general secretary and former Chief Minister Palaniswami will address a public meeting at 4 pm in Mandaveli Market area of Mylapore assembly constituency in Chennai.
