At Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi, doctors saved the life of a patient by doing very big and risky surgery. This patient had a 10.6 kg tumor in the stomach, which had become so big that he had spread to many essential parts of the stomach. This surgery was done by a team of doctors of VMMC and Safdarjung Hospital. Doctors said that the patient was troubled by this disease for the last eight months. The tumor was so big that he was putting pressure on many stomach organs, due to which the condition of the patient was getting very bad.
These doctors underwent surgery
Dr. Shivani B.C. Paruthi leads. He was accompanied by Dr. Sandeep Bansal, director of VMMC and Safdarjung Hospital, Dr. R.K. Chajhara and Dr. Kavita, head of the Gynerics Department, guided. During the surgery, the responsibility of anesthesia was Dr. D.K. Meena, Dr. Sapna Bhatia and Dr. Vishnu handled.
The condition was so bad
Doctors said that surgery was very difficult due to the size of the tumor and its sticking to the intestines, bladder and other organs. It was not easy to remove the tumor, as an organ could be damaged by mistake. Doctors completely took out this 10.6 kg gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST) with accurate technology.
What is gist tumor?
Dr. Sandeep Bansal said that GIST is a rare type of cancer, which is in the stomach and intestinal tissue. This tumor is made up of special cells, which are called ‘Interstitial Sales of Kajal’. These cells help control the intestines. If it is not treated at the right time, then it can grow rapidly and can damage other parts of the body.

Dr. Sandeep Bansal, director of VMMC and Safdarjung Hospital, said, ‘This surgery is proof of our team’s talent and hard work. Removing such a big tumor was not an easy task, but our team did it. We will try to give new life to the patients by doing such difficult operations even further. He also told that after surgery, the condition of the patient is now stable and the team of medical oncology is watching it so that he can recover quickly.
