India Semiconductor Mission 2.0, announced in the Union Budget 2026, is considered a game-changing step for India’s electronics and AI future. The objective of this mission is to ensure that semiconductor related machines, chemicals and gases are manufactured within India only. According to industry estimates, this market can reach approximately $400 billion by 2030. Due to the rising demand for AI at the global level, there is a shortage of powerful chips and there is heavy pressure on the supply chain. Experts are considering this as a rare opportunity for India. In the initial phase, the focus should be on increasing the sourcing of global companies from India, especially from MSMEs. India’s domestic chip consumption will be limited, so it is important to target the export market. In the next 5–7 years, India can become strong in areas like automation, precision parts, support systems and advanced packaging. With proper execution, this mission can make India a serious player in the global semiconductor ecosystem.
