Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Thursday (May 22, 2025) termed the Pahalgam terrorist attack as “unfortunate”, saying that the war situation between Pakistan and India could take “very dangerous turn”. India had destroyed nine terrorist structures in Pakistan and its occupied Kashmir under ‘Operation Sindoor’ late on May 6, 2025.
After India’s action, Pakistan tried to target Indian military bases on May 8, 9 and 10. The Indian Army then retaliated on Pakistani military establishments. It was agreed to stop military action on May 10 after a four -day struggle between the two sides.
‘Things could take dangerous turn’
Shahbaz said at an event organized at Muzaffarabad, a Pakistan -occupied Kashmir (PoK), “The incident of Pahalgam was unfortunate, but the war situation between the two countries could take a very dangerous turn at any time.” In this program, he distributed compensation checks to the families and the injured during the military struggle.
Shahbaz claimed that Pakistan had offered a fair investigation into the attack, but India rejected the proposal. He said, “Pakistan was ready for an international investigation into the Pahalgam incident, but instead of agreeing to it, India attacked Pakistan, which was given a befitting reply.”
Asim Munir made field marshal
Shahbaz claimed that Pakistan had avenged the defeat of the 1971 war. As a result of the 1971 war between India and Pakistan, Pakistan was partitioned and became a new country as Bangladesh, which was earlier known as East Pakistan. The Prime Minister also claimed that the Pakistani army targeted only military establishments.
A day earlier, Shahbaz Sharif decided to promote Army Chief General Asim Munir as a field marshal. The decision to promote General Munir was taken in the cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shahbaz. After General Ayub Khan, Munir is the first Army General to be promoted to the highest military rank in Pakistan. General Khan was made a field marshal in 1959.
