After Nepal, now the anger of Gen-Z against Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei is being seen on the streets. The Gen-Z protests that have been going on for the last five days over rising inflation have taken a violent turn. At least six people were killed in this.
At least three people were killed and 17 others were injured in protests on Thursday (January 2, 2026) in the city of Ajna in Lorestan province, about 300 kilometers (185 miles) southwest of Tehran, according to Iran’s semi-official Fars news agency. During the protest, people raised slogans of ‘Down with the dictator’. A video viral on social media showed arson on the road. Along with this, the sound of bullets was heard. People ‘Shameless! shameless!’ Seen shouting.
Fars news agency reported that two people were killed during protests in Chaharmahal, about 470 kilometers south of Tehran, and the city of Lordegan in Bakhtiari province. Some protesters started throwing stones at government buildings in the city. Gen-Z protesters threw stones at the Governor’s Office, Mosque, Martyrs Foundation, Town Hall and bank buildings in the area. The police responded by firing tear gas shells.
According to media reports, the wave of violent protests has reached about 21 states of Iran. This is being described as the biggest protest in Iran after 2022. The biggest reason for this protest is the economic crisis. The value of currency is continuously falling. People do not have employment, due to which there is anger among the public.
Although protests have been seen many times in Iran on religious issues, but this time this protest is being held against the Supreme Leader of Iran on economic issues. The inflation rate in Iran has reached 42.2 percent. Especially the prices of food items have increased by 72 percent. Earlier on Wednesday, schools, universities and public institutions were closed across the country. Authorities had declared a bank holiday in an attempt to quell the unrest.
