A big revelation has come to light in the murder case of Bangladesh student leader Sharif Usman Hadi. According to Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), the two main accused of this sensational murder have fled to India and reached Meghalaya. According to the report of Bangladesh’s leading newspaper The Daily Star, the accused entered India through Huluaghat border and reached Meghalaya with the help of local associates.

Bangladesh witnessed widespread protests and violence after Hadi’s death. On December 12, he was shot in the head while campaigning in Bijainagar area of ​​Dhaka. In critical condition, he was taken to Singapore for treatment, where he died on 18 December.

Accused entered India from Huluaghat border

In a press conference held at DMP Media Center in Dhaka, Additional Commissioner SN Nazrul Islam said that the accused Faisal Karim Masood and Alamgir Sheikh reached India by crossing the Huluaghat border. According to the police, after crossing the border, he was first received by a person named Purti and then a taxi driver named Sami took him to Tura city of Meghalaya. The officer also said that the two people who helped the accused reach Meghalaya have been detained in India. Bangladeshi police expressed confidence that coordination is underway with Indian agencies at both formal and informal levels to ensure the arrest and extradition of the accused.

Emphasis on India-Bangladesh coordination, preparation for extradition

According to DMP Additional Commissioner Nazrul Islam, there is contact between the agencies of the two countries. He said that efforts are being made to take prompt action while remaining within the ambit of law. This matter is also considered important from the point of view of regional security cooperation as it is related to cross-border crime, political violence and election security.

Who was Sharif Osman Hadi?

Sharif Usman Hadi was an influential student leader of Bangladesh and was associated with the anti-Sheikh Hasina platform ‘Inquilab Manch’. He was campaigning as an independent candidate from Dhaka-8 seat in the upcoming February elections when he was fatally attacked. Inquilab Manch made headlines last year during the July Movement, which ultimately led to Sheikh Hasina’s departure from power. After Hadi’s firing, his supporters and party workers had warned the interim government that if immediate action was not taken, the movement would intensify.
