Congress MP Shashi Tharoor did not attend the party’s Lok Sabha MPs meeting chaired by Rahul Gandhi on Friday (December 12, 2025). Questions are now being raised within the party regarding Tharoor’s repeated absence from important meetings. Although Shashi Tharoor had already informed the leadership about his absence from the meeting, the Congress Chief Whip says that he has no information about the reason for his absence.
Thiruvananthapuram MP Shashi Tharoor has praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi many times in the past, due to which questions have been raised on him. Now he is not even attending the formal meetings of Congress, in such a situation questions are bound to be raised.
Manish Tiwari also remained missing from the meeting
Not only MP Shashi Tharoor was missing from this important meeting chaired by Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha and top Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, but Chandigarh MP Manish Tewari was also absent. According to his public event list, MP Shashi Tharoor was attending an event organized by Prabha Khaitan Foundation in Kolkata on Thursday (December 11, 2025) night. In such a situation, it can be said that Tharoor could not return to Delhi on time for the meeting of Lok Sabha MPs.
Shashi Tharoor’s absence from the meeting came at a time when a few days ago he had clarified that he was not intentionally absent from the Congress strategic group meeting on November 30, 2025. He said on December 1, 2025, he was on a flight when that meeting was taking place. He had said, “I did not miss the meeting, I was returning from Kerala, I was on a flight.”
Tharoor’s absence from meetings is becoming a topic of discussion
Shashi Tharoor’s absence from major party meetings has given rise to many discussions. MP Shashi Tharoor did not even participate in the discussion on the issue of SIR, then he had cited his poor health for this. However, there is uneasiness among some Congress leaders regarding the increasing absences. One reason behind this is that Tharoor was the only Congress leader who was invited to the state banquet organized by the President in the honor of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
