Shashi Tharore on Donald Trump: Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, who is leading the all -party delegation on Operation Sindoor, rejected the idea of any mediation between India and Pakistan. He has said that it is not possible to suggest that two unequal people can be armed, because there is no similarity between terrorists and victims of terrorism.
‘We cannot accept words like mediation’
Shashi Tharoor said this amid this repeated claims by US President Donald Trump that he helped reduce tension between India and Pakistan. He said, “Mandatory is not a word that we are specially ready to accept. Let me tell you why it is not. The fact is that it means that when you say a broker or something, you are indicating a similarity that is not really present.”
‘No equality between terrorists and victims’
He said, “There is no similarity between terrorists and the victims of them (of terrorism). There is no similarity between a country providing refuge to terrorism and a country which is a rich multi -party democracy. No equivalence is possible in these cases and in these circumstances suggest that you can mediate between two wealthy people, not possible. ‘
On May 10, when Trump announced on social media that India and Pakistan had agreed for a complete and immediate ceasefire after an overnight talks in Washington’s mediation. Since that claim, he has reiterated his claim more than 12 times that he has helped in reducing tension between India and Pakistan.
Tharoor told what will the role of America?
Trump had also claimed that he has asked South Asian neighbors armed with nuclear weapons that America will do a lot of business with them if they stop the struggle. Asked how he would define the American role in the struggle, Tharoor said that he is somewhat guessing that America’s role must have been the first to have complete knowledge and talk between the two sides. Certainly my government received many calls from the US government at a higher level and we appreciate their concern and their interest.
‘America must have called Pakistan’
He said that at the same time the US would have made similar calls to Pakistan at the highest level and we estimate that this side needed to be convinced to stop this process, but it is my estimate. I do not know what he said to Pakistanis. Trump also reiterated his claim on Thursday (6 June 2025). He said during a meeting with German Chancellor Frederick Merge at the Oval Office that he was very proud to stop the struggle between nuclear weapons India and Pakistan.
