Delhi High Court refused to grant three weeks’ furlough to Vikas Yadav, convicted in the Nitish Katara murder case. The court clearly said that there is no arbitrariness in the order of the Jail Director General rejecting the furlough application, nor has it violated the constitutional rights of Vikas Yadav.

In fact, Vikas Yadav had challenged in the High Court the order of the jail authorities dated October 29, 2025, in which his demand for furlough was rejected. Furlough does not mean ending the sentence, rather a prisoner who has been in jail for a long time is given temporary release for some time. But the court rejected the petition of Vikas Yadav considering the decision of the jail administration as correct.

This is the whole matter

Nitish Katara was murdered after being kidnapped in February 2002. It was reported that Vikas Yadav and his cousin Vishal Yadav had objections to the alleged love affair between Nitish and Vikas’s sister Bharti Yadav, as both were from different castes. For this reason Nitish was kidnapped and murdered.

Vikas Yadav is the son of DP Yadav, a prominent leader of Uttar Pradesh. Both Vikas Yadav and Vishal Yadav were convicted in this case. On October 3, 2016, the Supreme Court sentenced both of them to 25 years imprisonment without any remission. Whereas the second accused Sukhdev Yadav was given a sentence of 20 years. This sensational incident took place on the night of 16-17 February 2002 when Nitish Katara was kidnapped from a wedding ceremony and later murdered.
