Challenge was given to NSA in Supreme Court

In the same month, Amritpal Singh had filed a petition in the Supreme Court challenging his detention under the National Security Act (NSA). The Supreme Court refused to hear the matter on November 10 and directed the matter to be taken to the High Court.

Justice Arvind Kumar and Justice N.V. Anjaria’s bench directed Amritpal to approach Punjab and Haryana High Court. The court asked the High Court to complete the hearing and dispose of the petition within six weeks.

He said his detention under the NSA was politically motivated and a violation of democratic rights. Central and Punjab governments were made parties in the petition.
