Many traditions related to the care of small children have been going on in Indian families for a long time. One of these traditions is that of applying kajal in the eyes of small children. Often you must have seen that grandmothers or elders in the house believe that by applying kajal, the child’s eyes become big and beautiful. Many people also consider this a way to avoid evil eyes, but medical science does not consider this tradition safe.
Doctors advise to avoid applying kajal in the eyes of small children. Actually, children’s eyes are very delicate and sensitive. In such a situation, applying kajal inside the eyes or near the eyelids can cause many problems. Doctors say that applying kajal does not increase the size of the eyes nor does it improve eyesight. Applying kajal on eyes is just a concept which has been prevalent among people for a long time.

Applying kajal does not increase the size of the eyes.
According to doctors, it is a wrong belief that applying kajal on the eyes of children makes their eyes bigger. Kajal only gives a darker color around the eyes, which can make the eyes appear slightly bulging or larger. But in reality this does not change the shape of the eyes. Doctors say that there is no scientific relation between kajal and the shape or light of the eyes. Therefore, it is not advisable to apply kajal in the eyes of children only on the basis of this belief.
Applying kajal on children’s eyes can affect their eyes.
According to doctors, applying kajal in the eyes of small children can cause problems like burning, itching, redness and allergies. In many cases, small particles of kajal enter the eyes, which increases the risk of infection. At the same time, if kajal goes inside the eyelids, it can clog the oil glands of the eyes. Due to this, swelling, watering or other problems may occur in the eyes. Doctors say that applying kajal in children can also block the tear ducts. Apart from this, lead, carbon perfume and other chemical preservatives are found in many kajal products available in the market. All these compounds can be dangerous for children’s eyes. In many cases, problems like eye infection and irritation have also been seen. At the same time, it has been told in many researches that the lead present in kajal can enter the body and have dangerous effects on health. In young children it can also affect the development of the nervous system.
