Shubman gill century: On the first day of the second cricket Test against England, India scored 310 runs for five wickets against England on the basis of captain Shubman Gill’s restraint.
Without Kuldeep Yadav and Jaspreet Bumrah, the Indian team landed in batting with three all -rounders in the playing XI. Like Leeds, Edbston’s pitch is also helpful to the batsmen and India will have to score at least 500 runs in the absence of Bumrah.
At the end of the first day’s play, Gill is playing 114 off 216 balls and Ravindra Jadez is playing 41 off 67 balls. Gill completed his century by playing Shoaib Bashir by playing a consecutive sweep shot. He and Jadeja have scored 99 runs in an unwavering partnership of the sixth wicket.
Rishabh Pant, who scored a century in both innings in the first Test, scored 25 runs in 42 balls while Nitish Kumar Reddy, who was selected in place of Shardul Thakur, could score the same run. Both these batsmen were out in the final session.
Pant was caught by Bashir at the hands of Jack Croly. Chris Woakes bowled Reddy.
Earlier, Yashasvi Jaiswal missed a century. In the second session, Stokes caught Jaiswal in the hands of Jamie Smith behind the wicket on short and wide ball. Jaiswal scored 87 runs in 107 balls with the help of 13 fours.
India scored 84 runs in the second session, losing the wicket of Jaiswal in 28 overs.
Gill narrowly survived the strong appeal of Bridan cars in the 34th over. He hit England’s only spinner Bashir on the extra cover while Pant hit him on top of the mid -on.
KL Rahul (two runs off 26 balls) was dismissed cheaply in the first hour in the morning. Cars gave India a second blow by catching Karun Nair (31 runs) to Harry Brook in the second slip just before lunch.
In the first hour, the ball did not get much swing but the seam was found a lot. Cars tried to put the ball on the chest to Jayaswal, but this young batsman faced well.
He started by putting cars by putting some good cover drives. He also played a great pool shot to Stokes. Nair, who was sent up in the batting order, also threw many full -fledged balls by England fast bowlers, but he gave a suitable reply by covering the cover and strategies.
India has given rest to Jaspreet Bumrah in this match. At the same time, Nitish Kumar Reddy is playing in place of Washington Sundar and Shardul Thakur in place of Sudarshan. Fast bowler Akash Deep has also got a place while the wrist spinner Kuldeep is again out. After failing to take 20 wickets in the first match, questions are being raised on the decision to keep Kuldeep out of the team.
