Who was the Indian cricket captain in 1947?
Prior to independence, Iftikhar Ali Khan Pataudi and CK Naidu were also the captain of the Indian team. According to the available information, when India became independent on 15 August 1947, Team India had no captain. However, when Team India went on Australian tour in February 1948, Lala Amarnath was appointed as the new captain.
Lala Amarnath used to be a batsman as well as bowling well. The interesting thing was that from time to time, he also kept handling the task of wicketkeeping. He played 24 Test matches for India, in which he scored 878 runs and took a total of 45 wickets in bowling. At the same time, the Indian team visited England from independence last year i.e. 1946, Iftikhar Ali Khan Pataudi was the captain of the Indian cricket team on that tour.
Azad India’s first captain
Azad was the first captain of India, Lala Amarnath, whose under Team India played 15 matches and as captain he won only 2 matches. Under the captaincy of Amarnath, India lost 6 matches and 7 matches were drawn. If we look at the personal figures of Amarnath, he scored more than 10,000 runs in first-class cricket.
