Team India lost its first match on the Australia tour. In the first ODI played in Perth on Sunday, Australia won by 7 wickets under DLS. This match was played of 26-26 overs which was interrupted by rain. Team India had scored 136 runs for 9 wickets in 26 overs after playing first, but Australia got the DLS target of 131 runs, which the Kangaroos achieved in 21.1 overs by losing 3 wickets. Shubman Gill looked quite disappointed after losing his first ODI as captain. Know here what Shubman Gill said about Perth’s defeat.
After the defeat in the first ODI, Shubman Gill said, “When you lose three wickets in the powerplay, it is never easy. You always try to make a comeback. There was a lot to learn from this match. We took the match deep by defending 130 runs in 26 overs, so we are satisfied with that.”
He said that the huge crowd of fans in the stadiums will motivate the team on the limited overs tour. Gill said, “We are fortunate that wherever we play, fans come in large numbers. Hopefully they will cheer us on in Adelaide as well.”
This was India’s first defeat in ODIs in 2025, ending their streak of eight consecutive wins. Australian captain Mitchell Marsh scored unbeaten 46 runs and led his team to victory with 29 balls remaining. He said that chasing the target of 131 runs under Duckworth-Lewis rule was a bit challenging because the ball was swinging a bit.
After Australia’s win, Mitchell Marsh said, “The weather took its toll today. Thank you to all the fans who stayed on the field. It feels good to get a win. It’s always good to win at home. I love playing for Australia. The ball was swinging a bit. We knew that would be the case for both teams, so it was a bit difficult to reach the target. I’m proud of our young players who came out on the field and got us the win.”
