Skin Cancer Symptoms: Often people associate skin cancer only with sunlight and sunburn. We are told to keep an eye on changes in moles and protect ourselves from the strong rays of the sun. But very few people know that skin cancer, especially melanoma, can also occur in those parts of the body where sunlight does not reach at all. This is the reason why such hidden melanomas are considered more dangerous, because they remain undetected for a long time and the risk increases. Let us tell you about them.
What is the way to prevent this?
The first step to prevent skin cancer is regular self-examination. But the problem is that we often see only those parts which remain open. Whereas many serious cases occur in such organs, which generally do not receive attention. It is believed that DNA damage caused by sunlight, some genetic factors and weak immune system together increase the risk of skin cancer.
Where do symptoms of skin cancer occur?
Skin cancer that starts on the outside of the ear may initially appear as dry, scaly skin or a slowly growing white lump. These often do not cause pain, due to which people ignore them. If treatment is not done in time, it can spread to the inner ear and the bones there. Cancer occurring under the nail is called subungual melanoma. It may appear as black or dark marks under the nails of the hands or toenails. In men, suspicious lesions on the skin of the genitals can also be a sign of skin cancer, so it is important to examine these areas as well.
Melanoma in the eyes can appear as dark spots on the white part of the eye or around the pupil. At the same time, small, hard lumps that form on the eyelids can grow rapidly and are considered aggressive forms of skin cancer. Cancer can also develop on the tongue and inside the mouth, especially in people who smoke or drink too much alcohol. Here, lump, non-healing wound, tingling, numbness or white hard spots can be signs of danger.
Cancer can occur in these parts also
Skin cancer can also occur on the soles of the feet and palms of the hands. It is seen more in areas without sunlight in people with dark skin. Cancer can also be hidden in the scalp, especially in people who have thinning hair or baldness. Skin cancer on the lips is more common in men and is linked to smoking, alcohol and HPV infection. Apart from this, moles or spots can be hidden in the tattooed areas, which makes it difficult to identify the changes.
What do experts say?
Experts say that if there is a history of skin cancer in the family, the skin is very fair, there are many moles or one has to stay outside for a long time, then extra vigilance is necessary. Check yourself every three months, take the help of a mirror and ask your loved ones to keep an eye on you. The earlier skin cancer is caught, the easier and more effective the treatment is.
