A new weather system is moving towards the northern mountains of India, due to which there will be a layer of snow in the higher areas. There is a possibility of dry weather in the central part of the country for the next 7 days. India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning of change in the weather of the Western Himalayan region.
Where will it rain?
Western disturbance is going to enter this western Himalayan region today on Monday (9 February). Due to this the cold will increase further. There is a possibility of sporadic rain or snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh today. Apart from this, there is a possibility of rain in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand between 9 to 11 February.
Snow in the mountains, relief from severe cold in the plains
According to IMD, the weather may worsen by February 10, as the Meteorological Department has predicted thunderstorms, lightning and winds at a speed of 30 to 40 kilometers per hour in higher areas. On one hand, there is forecast of snowfall in the mountains, while on the other hand, there is relief from severe cold in the plains. The minimum temperature in north-west India is likely to increase by about 2 degrees Celsius in the next 2 days.
Fatehpur in eastern Rajasthan recorded the lowest temperature of 4.9 degrees Celsius on Saturday. Central India will also see an increase of 2 to 4 degrees Celsius in temperature in the coming days, while the maximum temperature in Delhi and National Capital Region will remain stable between 23 to 26 degrees Celsius.

Travelers in North India are facing smog on the roads. Dense to very dense fog is expected in some areas of Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand in the morning and night till 10 February. Visibility has fallen to zero meters in Bareilly and Gorakhpur, making driving extremely dangerous. Apart from North India, there is a possibility of fog in Tamil Nadu, Bihar and some parts of Northeast India this morning.
