After the huge tax tariff levied by the US on India, now US President Donald Trump has changed his stand. Trump has now talked about his friendship with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, describing his relations with India as strong.

On Wednesday (September 17, 2025), a day after congratulating PM Modi on his birthday, Trump told reporters with British Prime Minister Kir Stmper, ‘I am very close to India, I am very close to the Prime Minister of India. I recently talked to him and wished him a happy birthday. We have very good relations.

Criticism of European countries buying oil from Russia

Trump’s comment came at a time when he criticized European countries buying oil from Russia and said that such steps weaken efforts to isolate Moscow amidst the current conflicts. Despite expressing his displeasure over Russian oil trade with India, Trump highlighted his close ties with Modi and suggested that reducing global oil prices would be forced to compromise Russia.

Trump said, ‘I came to know that European countries were buying oil from Russia, but I banned them. China is currently giving a huge tariff to America, but I am ready to do other things, but when I am fighting for the people I am buying oil from Russia. If oil prices are low then Russia will compromise very easily.

Donald Trump eager to meet Prime Minister Modi

President Trump made this statement during a meeting with British Prime Minister Kir Starmer. Trump said that he is eager to talk to his very good friend Prime Minister Modi in the coming weeks and he is confident that both countries will reach a successful agreement. Meanwhile, the future of trade talks between India and the US remains uncertain.
