Son of newspaper distributing father becomes officer, Rajkumar passes UPSC exam in third attempt

When a son from an ordinary family of a small town succeeds in the UPSC Civil Services Examination, considered to be the toughest examination in the country, it not only changes his life, but also opens a new path of hope for millions of youth. One such inspiring story is that of Rajkumar Mahato, who has achieved extraordinary success despite living amidst limited resources, poverty and difficult circumstances.

Rajkumar Mahato, resident of Chas Jodhadih Mod area of Bokaro district of Jharkhand, has brought glory not only to his family but also to the entire district and state by securing 557th rank in the UPSC Civil Services Examination 2025. Rajkumar’s father Rampat Mahato works as a newspaper distributer. The financial condition of the family was not strong, but he never let his son’s enthusiasm for studies diminish.

The prince’s childhood was ordinary. The family had to struggle every day to meet the household needs. But Rajkumar’s love for studies was deep from the beginning. He was determined that no matter what the circumstances were, he would not step back from the path of hard work. This thinking later became his biggest strength.

Studied from Delhi University

Rajkumar Mahato studied Physics Honors from the prestigious Ramjas College of Delhi University. It was not easy for him to study in a big city like Delhi, but he accepted every challenge. He started preparing for UPSC during his college days and also took coaching in Delhi.

Covid changed the path, but the goal did not change

Then the Covid epidemic arrived in the country. The situation became such that the prince had to leave Delhi and return to his village Chas. This was a big shock for him, because he suddenly lost the education and facilities of the city. But he also turned this difficulty into an opportunity. After returning to Chas, he decided not to go out and continued his preparations by staying there.

Preparation continued without coaching

While living in the village, Rajkumar pursued his studies without any coaching. He prepared with the help of online platforms, digital notes and books. He believes that if there is proper planning and proper utilization of time, then lack of resources does not come in the way. Along with studies, he paid special attention to time management.

More successes achieved through studies

While preparing for UPSC, Rajkumar also completed his Masters from IGNOU. Not only this, he also passed the UGC NET exam. This shows that he did not limit himself to a single goal, but made a habit of continuously learning.

Three attempts, new learning every time

Rajkumar Mahato made a total of three attempts in the UPSC exam. In his first attempt he did not get success as expected. This time was disappointing for him, but he did not give up. In the second attempt he reached the interview, but his name could not appear in the final list. Despite this his confidence remained intact. In the third attempt, he learned from his previous mistakes, changed his strategy and worked harder. Finally the day came when his name was included in the final list and he secured 557th rank.
