For the first time in the 143 -year -long history of the Railway Protection Force (RPF), a female officer has taken command of it. Sonali Mishra, Senior IPS officer of 1993 batch, has been appointed as Director General of RPF. His name was approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet of the Government of India and now he has officially taken over.
Sonali Mishra is a senior IPS officer of Madhya Pradesh cadre. He has been given the responsibility of DG of Railway Protection Force till 31 October 2026. As soon as he takes charge, a new history has been created in RPF, because this is the first time a woman has been appointed to this supreme post.
Experience over three decades
Sonali Mishra has more than 30 years of experience of police service. Before taking responsibility for RPF, she has held important positions like Police Training and Research Institute in Madhya Pradesh, ADG in Bhopal and Director of MP Police Academy. Apart from this, she has also worked on international platforms like CBI, BSF and United Nations Kosovo Peace Mission.

His service has received respect at the national level many times. He has been awarded the Presidential Police Medal and Police Medal. These awards recognize his dedication spirit and uninterrupted service.

After assuming office, Sonali Mishra said in her first statement that she will play RPF’s motto “Yasho Labhva” – ie vigilance, courage and service with full devotion. He thanked the government and the department for his new responsibility.
How much salary does DG RPF get?
The basic salary of the Director General of Railway Protection Force is Rs 2,25,000 per month. Apart from this, they also get dearness allowance (DA), house rent allowance (HRA), and other government facilities. This post is one of the most senior and prestigious posts in RPF, whose responsibility is to ensure railway safety and monitoring of the entire country.
