Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly can file nomination for the post of president in the upcoming elections of the Bengal Cricket Association (CAB) after resigning from the post of BCCI President about three years ago.

Ganguly (52 years) was CAB President till 2019. He started his term as Secretary of the state unit under the leadership of late Jagmohan Dalmiya in 2014.

Then in 2019 he was unanimously elected President of BCCI and Jai Shah became secretary, but after completion of a term, Ganguly replaced Ganguly in 1983 World Cup hero Roger Binny.

A senior CAB official, aware of the state unit’s developments, told ‘PTI’ on the condition of confidentiality, “Yes, Sourav is eager to return to the management system. He has made up his mind to file nomination for the post of CAB President. If seen according to the BCCI constitution, then they (a total of nine years) have five years left in the state institution. He will be unanimously elected or elections will be held, it is not clear yet. ”

CAB’s current president Snehashish Ganguly is the elder brother of Sourav. He will complete six years after which he will have to take a break as per the constitution recommended by the Lodha Committee.
