When it comes to Bollywood’s most dreaded and memorable villain, then the name of Pran Krishna Sikand Ahluwalia comes first. Pran, who received the title of ‘Villain of the Millennium’ in Indian cinema. He acted in more than 350 films in his six -decade long career. From the year 1940 to 1990, his villain scared the audience, while his assistant characters won the heart.

Pran used to drown in acting in such a way that people used to show up abuses and baddas after seeing their acting on screen. ‘Villain of the Millennium’ girls and women did not like it on screen.
Pran will be death anniversary on Saturday
Saturday 12 July is his death anniversary. Pran was born on 12 February 1920 in Lahore and up his upbringing was in a rich Punjabi Hindu family in Ballimaran, Delhi. His father was only Krishna Sikand a civil engineer and government contractor. Pran studied in cities like Meerut, Dehradun, Kapurthala and Rampur.
Pran, who was interested in photography, started a career as a photographer in Lahore. In the year 1938, after playing the role of ‘Sita’ in Ramlila in Shimla, he stepped into the acting world. His first Punjabi film was ‘Yamla Jat’, which came to 1940. Pran played the role of a villain in the film. But he became a hero with the 1942 film ‘Khandan’ in Hindi cinema.
Pran has worked in more than 350 films
After partition in the year 1947, Pran came to Mumbai and made his place in Bollywood with ‘stubborn’. Pran gave a new dimension to the villain in the 1950s and 60s. His strong presence in his films such as ‘Madhumati’ (1958), ‘Jai Jai Jai Ganga Bahti Hai’ (1960), ‘Ram and Shyam’ (1967) surprised the audience. His deep voice and dialogues like “Barkhurdar” made him famous from house to house.
His villain was so impressive that people used to shy away from keeping their children’s name ‘Pran’. Pran also left his mark in the supporting roles by playing the role of ‘Malang Chacha’ in ‘Upkar’ in 1967. His characters in films like ‘Zanjeer’ (1973), ‘Don’ (1978), and ‘Amar Akbar Anthony’ (1977) proved that he can kill in every role.
Pran made many historical awards his name
Pran became one of the most expensive actors of Bollywood from 1969 to 1982. He suggested Amitabh Bachchan’s name to producer Prakash Mehra for ‘Zanjeer’ in 1973, who played an important role in giving a new flight to Amitabh’s career. Pran was a close friend of Ashok Kumar and the two worked together in more than 20 films.
Pran also produced the film ‘Laxmanrekha’ in 1991. After a heart attack in 1998, he reduced the films, but worked in ‘Tere Mere Sapna’ (1996) and ‘Mritudata’ (1997) at the behest of Amitabh. Pran received many awards for his contribution. He won three Filmfare Awards for Best Supporting Actor for ‘Upkar’ (1967) (1967), ‘Tear Ban Gaye Phool’ (1969), and ‘Bay-Amman’ (1972).
However, in 1972, he refused to accept the award for ‘Bay-Himan’, as he believed that Ghulam Mohammed should have received the best composer award for ‘Pakija’.
Even after leaving the world, life is settled in the hearts of people
In 1997, he received the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award and Stardust’s ‘Villain of the Millennium’ award in the year 2000. In 2001, he was awarded the Padma Bhushan. In 2013, he received the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, the highest honor of Indian cinema, which was presented at his home.
Pran married Shukla Ahluwalia in 1945. They have three children Arvind, Sunil, and Pinky. He was a sports lover. He organized charity shows for Bangladesh refugees and deaf.
On 12 July 2013, he died at the age of 93 at Lilavati Hospital in Mumbai. Pran’s name is still alive in the hearts of cinema lovers.
