SCO Summit 2025: Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to China has given India a big success. The Tianjin announcement of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) on 1 September included a strong condemnation of the Pahalgam terrorist attack, which sent a message that India and SCO member countries were united against terrorism. Pakistan is also a full member in this organization.
India’s Defense Minister Rajnath Singh had earlier refused to sign a joint announcement at a meeting of SCO Defense Ministers held in Kingdao, China on 26 June. The reason for this was that it did not mention the attack in Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir on 22 April, in which 26 people were killed, while the incidents were mentioned in the context of Pakistan.
Pakistan does not mention Pakistan in Tianjin SCO announcement
The name of Pakistan in the Tianjin SCO announcement was not taken in the context of the Pahalgam attack. However, all member countries condemned terrorism as a common threat. 10 permanent members including Russia, China and Iran signed this document.
‘Dual standard unacceptable towards terrorism’
In his address, PM Modi did not name Pakistan, but highlighted the issue of open support by some nations. He said, ‘India stands with solidarity against terrorism, and SCO can play an important role in this direction. Dual standards are not acceptable.
The Tianjin SCO announcement also clarified, ‘Members of the members strongly condemn terrorism in all forms and manifestations and consider double standards against terrorism as unacceptable. The international community is called upon to take action against terrorism and cross -border movement of terrorists. ” Also, the document said that the terrorist attack in Pahalgam on 22 April 2025 is deeply condemned and condolences to the families of the dead and the injured have been expressed.
India’s diplomatic victory amid America’s pressure
Apart from this diplomatic victory, bilateral meetings with PM Modi’s Xi Jinping and Vladimir Putin of Russia proved to be important at the time of India’s growing trading tension with the US. Donald Trump had threatened to impose 50% heavy tariffs on India, which is based on India’s buying oil from Russia. India challenged this claim and clarified that it is not profitable. India’s Oil Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said that the purchase of oil from Russia of India kept the markets stable and prevented the prices rising.
According to reports, Trump is angry that the Modi government did not support his claim that he stopped the Indo-Pakistan war after the first time. India clarified that in bilateral matters, it does not take a decision under the pressure of any third party.
