Yogi Patel 4 Years Jail in Sri Lanka Match Fixing Legends League Cricket: A case related to match fixing has come up in cricket. Although this case is old, but now a new update has come out in it. Last year, news came that there was something wrong in the Legends Cricket League played in Sri Lanka. It has now been reported that a Sri Lankan court sentenced an Indian citizen to four years rigorous imprisonment on Tuesday in a 2024 case of cricket match fixing.
According to a report by news agency PTI, a Sri Lankan court sentenced Yogi Patel of India to four years in jail in the match -fixing case. Yogi Patel was accused of offering to fix the match in the Legends League T20 tournament played in Kandy. He was accused on the basis of the complaint of Upul Tharanga, chairman of Sri Lanka’s selection committee.
Patel was prosecuted in his absence due to the court running away from the country despite a trip ban. He was arrested in March last year and was later released on bail in May as part of strict conditions.
Laws related to match fixing in Sri Lanka are very strict
Sri Lanka has strict laws related to match fixing. In Sri Lanka’s law, match fixing has been kept under criminal law. If someone is found guilty of match fixing in Sri Lanka, then he may be sentenced to 10 years or fine. Also, both sentence or fine of 10 years is possible. However, the Legends Cricket League officially has nothing to do with the Sri Lanka Cricket Board or the ICC. But in this league, big players from many countries including India play. Sri Lanka adopted the Sports Prevention of Sports Corruption Act in 2019, which provides for jail sentence of up to 10 years and a fine of more than US $ 5,50,000.
