Sri Lanka won by five wickets in the second ODI played against Zimbabwe on Sunday at Harare. With this, Sri Lanka has made a clean sweep 2–0 in the series of two matches. After losing the toss in the match, Zimbabwe’s team came out to bat first and scored 277 runs losing seven wickets.
The team was given a great start by Brian Bennett and Ben Karen. The opening pair shared a 55 -run partnership in 9.4 overs. Brian was dismissed for 21 runs in 29 balls with the help of two fours.
After Bryan returned to the pavilion, Brendon Taylor took the team with Ben Karen, adding 61 runs for the second wicket. Taylor was dismissed for 20 runs in 37 balls. At the same time, Karen scored 79 runs in 95 balls. During this time, nine fours also came out of Karen’s bat. Apart from these, Alexander Raza played an unbeaten innings of 59 runs.
Dushmantha Chamera took three wickets from the opposition camp. Apart from these, Asitha Fernando hunted two. In response, Sri Lanka won the match with five wickets remaining in 49.3 overs. Pathum Nisanka shared a 48 -run partnership for the first wicket with Nuwanidu Fernando. Fernando returned to the pavilion after scoring 14 runs. After some time, Kusal Mendis (5) also went on.
The team had lost two wickets for a score of 68. From here, Nisanka brought the team on the path of victory by adding 78 runs for the third wicket with Sadira Samarvikrama.
Samarvikrama was dismissed by 31 runs, after which Nisanka added 90 runs for the fourth wicket with captain Charith Asanka. Nisanka was dismissed for 122 runs with the help of 16 fours in 136 balls, while Asanka added 71 runs in 61 balls to the team’s account.
Richard Nagarwa and Brad Evans took two wickets each from the opposition team, while Ernest Masuku took one wicket. Sri Lanka won the first match of the series by 7 runs. In such a situation, the second match had become decisive. After the ODI series, now both countries will play a series of three T20 matches between September 3-7.
