Behind the Aratai app is the founder of Zoho Company Sridhar Vambu. Sridhar Vambu was born in 1968 in Tanjavur district of Tamil Nadu. He was smart in studies since childhood. He did his B.Tech in Electrical Engineering from IIT Madras and then went to America and earned a PhD from Princeton University.
Decision to return to India
Sridhar started his career with Qualcomm, a US big company, where he worked on wireless technology. But after a few years, he decided to leave a comfortable life abroad and return to India. This step was very shocking at that time, because many people wanted to settle there, but Sridhar decided to work for the country.

After returning from America, he created his office not in big cities like Bengaluru or Hyderabad, but in a small village in Tenkasi district of Tamil Nadu. In the year 1996, Sridhar Vambu, along with his friends and family, started a company called Adventnet, which later became Zoho Corporation. Its aim was to create an Indian software company that could compete with the world. In the year 2021, Joho took another big initiative and launched a messaging app named Arattai.

Recently, when Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan supported the Aratai app and appealed to the people to adopt indigenous digital platforms. According to reports, in just three days, the daily sign-up of this app increased from 3,000 to 3,50,000. People started adopting it as “Made in India WhatsApp”. He is the 39th richest person in India in the 2024 list of Forbes India. His total assets have been estimated at $ 5.85 billion, or about Rs 51,900 crore. He was awarded the Padma Shri Award in 2021 by the Government of India for his contribution.
