There is big news for lakhs of youth preparing for government jobs. Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has decided to postpone the Constable (GD) Recruitment Examination 2026. This examination was scheduled to start from 23 February 2026, but now it has been postponed till further notice. The Commission has made it clear that the new exam dates will be announced later.
In the official notice issued by SSC on 17 February 2026, it has been said that the computer-based examination of Constable (GD) will not be conducted at present. All further information related to the examination will be released on the website of the Commission in due course of time. The Commission has appealed to the candidates to rely only on official information.
For which recruitments was the examination held?
Recruitment in the Central Armed Police Forces is done through SSC GD examination. This includes forces like CRPF, BSF, CISF, ITBP, SSF and Assam Rifles. Through this examination, recruitment is done to the posts of GD Constable and Rifleman (GD). Every year a large number of youth appear in this examination.
Slot selection facility will not be available
The Commission has also made it clear that the facility of slot selection will not be provided in this examination. That means candidates will not be able to choose the date or time of examination as per their choice. Information about the examination city will be given about 8 to 10 days before the commencement of the examination. The admit cards will be issued 2 to 3 days before the examination.
What is considered to be the reason for postponing the exam?
Although the Commission has not given the official reason for postponing the examination, some reasons are believed to be behind it. According to experts, MTS exam is currently going on across the country, which is scheduled till 19th February. After the exam was canceled in many places, it was rescheduled to 23rd February. In such a situation, conflict of dates can be a major reason.

But this time neither slot booking had started nor information about the exam city was given. In such a situation, the candidates were already expressing fear of postponement of the exam.
