Stock Market Today: The fourth trading session of the week in the Indian stock market on Thursday, January 8, had a negative start to the trading day. Major benchmark indices BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty 50 opened trading in the red.
The 30-share BSE Sensex index opened at 84,778.02 points, down 183.12 points or 0.22 percent, while the NSE Nifty 50 opened at 26,106.50, down 34.25 points or 0.13 percent.
By around 9:28 am, the Sensex was trading at 84,761 points, down by 199 points. Whereas Nifty 50 was trading at the level of 26,135 after slipping 43 points.

How was the market on Wednesday?
On Wednesday, January 7, there was a decline in the Indian stock market and both the major benchmark indices closed trading in the red. Sensex fell by 102.20 points or 0.12 percent to 84,961.14 points, while NSE Nifty 50 slipped by 37.95 points or 0.14 percent and ended the trading day at 26,140.75.
Titan, HCL Tech, Tech Mahindra, Sun Pharma and ICICI Bank were the top gainers from the BSE basket. Talking about the top losers, Power Grid, Maruti, HDFC Bank, Tata Steel and Asian Paint were. A decline was recorded in the shares of Nifty 100, Nifty Bank, Nifty Auto and Nifty FMCG.
Whereas there was a rise in the shares of Nifty IT, Nifty Midcap 100 and Nifty Smallcap 100. On Wednesday’s trading day, 12 shares from BSE basket closed on the green mark and 18 shares recorded a decline.
