If you have cleared UPSC or are dreaming of clearing it, then this news is very important for you. UPSC has clearly explained to the candidates selected in 2025 how to behave on social media. The Commission has said that any kind of post which promotes itself or which can be misinterpreted should be stayed away from.
What is the complete advisory?
UPSC has said in its advisory that the candidates joining civil services are no longer just ordinary citizens, but they become part of a responsible post. In such a situation, their every activity on social media directly impacts the image of their service and the organization.
The Commission has specifically said that candidates should not use their achievements for any kind of advertisement, promotion or branding. That is, if any coaching institute or company wants to use your name and photo for publicity, then keep distance from it.
What precautions have been mentioned regarding social media use?
UPSC has asked the candidates to keep some important things in mind. First of all, before posting anything, think carefully about what impact it may have. It is not right to post anything in a hurry or out of emotion.
Apart from this, avoid such posts which can harm the image of any person, institution or service. UPSC has also said that the officer should not promote the brand on social media by becoming an “influencer”.

Why was such strictness necessary?
In the recent past, many such cases have come to light, where names and photographs of successful candidates were used by coaching institutes for their publicity. At the same time, some officers also used social media for self-branding, complaints about which reached the Commission.
Keeping all these things in mind, this time UPSC has issued this advisory in more detail and with more strictness than before.
How many candidates were successful this year?
UPSC had released the result of Civil Services Examination 2025 on 6 March 2026. This time a total of 958 candidates have been selected, which include 659 men and 299 women. This time the number of selected candidates has been slightly less as compared to last year.
