A shocking news has come out from Gorakhpur district of Uttar Pradesh, in which a student studying MBBS in Baba Raghav Das (BRD) Medical College located in Gorakhpur district is in his first year for the last 11 years. That means he has not been able to pass his first year examination for the last decade, which is surprising in itself. Now the medical college administration has decided to expel that student from the college and has also been ordered to vacate the college hostel room.

What is the matter?

A student came to Baba Raghav Das (BRD) Medical College located in Gorakhpur district to study MBBS in the year 2014, but even after 11 years, he has not been able to pass the first year examination of his course and is still in the first year. In view of this, the college administration has decided to expel the student from the college and has also ordered him to vacate the hostel as soon as possible. However, the student has cited mental illnesses and problems as the reason for his continuous failure and remaining in the first year for the last decade. According to the student, he has been suffering from mental problems like stress and depression for a long time, due to which he is not able to appear in the examinations.

The student has challenged the expulsion decision given by the college administration in the High Court, but the court has also not given any relief to the student on the basis of rules and instructions. This student is a resident of Azamgarh and is famous by the name ‘Daroga’ in the entire college. All the students call him Daroga, because the student’s father is a sub-inspector in Uttar Pradesh Police. According to the college administration, teachers and administration tried to help the student through counseling and special classes, but the administration says that the student has no interest in studies. The hostel administration is also upset with the student and has been repeatedly complaining about it to the college administration. The administration says that because of this student, other students are also facing problems. The college administration said that assistance will be taken from the National Medical Commission (NMC) for further action.

What do NMC rules say?

According to the new rules of the National Medical Commission (NMC), any student gets only four chances to pass the first year examination of MBBS, within which the student has to pass the first year examination. Apart from this, maximum time of 10 years is given to complete the entire MBBS course. This student has met both deadlines.
