This story is about Deepesh Kevani, who has set an example by taking admission in MBA in IIM Shillong. He says that now this will be the first time that I will be able to pay attention to my studies completely. Before this, both jobs and studies had to be run together. But now I am moving completely towards my dream.
Deepesh, who works as a watchman in Ahmedabad, achieved 92.5 percent in the CAT exam held in November 2024 and made it to the top management institute IIM. Deepesh, who lives in a small house, lost his father in his childhood and started taking responsibility of studies and family since then.
Starts full of struggles
When Deepesh was only 11 years old, his father passed away. After this, his family moved from Jaipur to Ahmedabad. While staying in a room house with mother and younger brother, Deepesh started taking responsibility from an early age. In the seventh grade, he started working at the shoe shop, where he used to get 1500 months salary. Deepesh says that he used to come directly from school to work. It was a distant thing to take tuition, but I did not give up. On the basis of this hard work, he scored 85% in 10th and 89% in 12th. He was also a school topper of 12th.
Job with studies
After 12th, Deepesh got a government job of watchman in Ahmedabad Cantt. With a salary of Rs 18,000, he took over the cost of the house and completed his studies at B.Com and M.Com with distance. But MBA’s dream was pressed somewhere. When his younger brother Dinesh received admission in IIM Lucknow and he came to Ahmedabad for internship, he turned Deepesh again towards his dream.
CAT preparation and IIM’s journey
Deepesh started preparations for CAT from May 2024. He used to work for a watchman till two and a half in the day and then went to the coaching class in the evening. Every day about four hours of studies and 50-60 km journey was part of his routine. The result came in December 2024 and Deepesh achieved 92.5 percentile in CAT. He also performed well in the interview and finally he got admission for MBA in IIM Shillong.
What is dream?
Dipesh now wants to complete his studies from IIM and become an investment banker. They say that I made the deprivations my strength. The place I am on today is the result of my hard work and family faith.
