Shaheen Afridi has become the new ODI captain of Pakistan cricket team. He has replaced Mohammad Rizwan, who remained the captain of the Pakistan team for almost a year. Till now Rizwan may not have been able to recover from the shock of snatching the captaincy, then former cricketer Rashid Latif has burst another bomb on Rizwan’s head. Latif has made a surprising claim that Rizwan lost his captaincy in support of Palestine.
Support for Palestine proved costly?
Rashid Latif said on the removal of Mohammad Rizwan from the captaincy, “If he raised the flag of Palestine, will he be removed from the captaincy? Such a mindset is being formed that you will make a non-Islamic cricket captain in an Islamic country.”
Islamic culture in dressing room
Rashid Latif also claimed that Mike Hesson was behind this decision. He said that head coach Mike Hesson did not like religious activities inside the dressing room.
The veteran Pakistani cricketer further said, “Mike Hesson is behind this decision, isn’t it? He doesn’t like this culture in the dressing room. He has a team of 5-6 people, how can such a culture be stopped from the dressing room. When Inzamam ul Haq, Saeed Anwar and Saqlain Mushtaq were in the team, we were never affected by these things.”
Three formats, three different captains
Pakistan now has three different captains in three different formats. The Test team is being captained by Shan Masood, who is currently busy in the Test series against South Africa. Whereas Shaheen Afridi has become the new captain of the ODI team and the command of the T20 team is with Salman Aga.
