Supreme Court on Waqf Act: The hearing was held in the Supreme Court on Wednesday (16 April 2025) regarding the Waqf law. At present, the court has not given any order or instruction in this case. Now a hearing will be held in this case on April 17 at 2 pm. The court has commented that the Waqf Board should have a Muslim member besides X officials members, which was opposed by Solicitor General Tushar Mehta. Advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi, who appeared in the court on behalf of the Muslim side, expressed concern about the Waqf properties, on which the CJI interrupted him.
Abhishek Manu Singhvi told the court that out of 8 lakh Waqf properties, 4 lakhs will go like this. Intervening on this, the Chief Justice said, “We have been told that the Delhi High Court is built on Waqf land. We are not saying that all Waqf bye users are wrong, but real worrisome.”
A bench of Chief Justice Sanjeev Khanna, Justice Sanjay Kumar and KV Vishwanathan asked the Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing for the Center, how the Waqf Bai user could be rejected, as many people will not have documents to register such Waqfs.
Senior advocate Abhishek Singhvi, who represents some petitioners, said that the effect of the Waqf Act will be across India and the petitions should not be sent to the Supreme Court.
