The Supreme Court will hear the petition of a minor on June 18, in which he has demanded security for the cancellation of his marriage and protesting against child marriage.
Justice Ujjl Bhuiyan and Justice Manmohan’s bench will hear the petition of the minor. In this petition, the girl has also demanded a directive against her husband, accusing her of pressurizing her for marriage. Her petition alleged that she was married on December 9, 2024 against her wish, when she was sixteen and a half years old.
She claimed that she wanted to study further but her father-in-law kept her in captivity while she promised to allow her to return to her parents. According to this, this girl had the desire to continue her education, but her child was forced to get her married and her life is threatened due to opposing maintaining this marriage.
The minor claimed that he is currently absconding with a friend and he is afraid that he will be killed if he returns to Bihar. The girl said that her parents had forcibly married her to a 32 or 33-year-old person six months ago and she was sent off soon after the wedding, while her tenth board examinations were near.
The petition said that his in-laws claimed that they paid a lot of money for marriage and spent and repeatedly told him that he wanted a child.
The petitioner said that her husband is a civil contractor. The husband claimed that the petitioner’s parents are his borrower and would have to continue marriage instead of studying further to fulfill their dreams of becoming a teacher or lawyer. Therefore, the girl sought instructions to cancel her marriage and prosecute her in-laws and husbands under the Child Marriage Prohibition Act, 2006. He also demanded the officials to instruct him to ensure the safety of himself and his friend.
