What is surrogacy?

In the easy language, in the surrogacy process, a woman conceives for another couple and gives birth to the child. The pregnant woman is called a surrogate mother.
What is the law in India?
The Government of India implemented the surrogacy law in 2021, according to which only philanthropic surrogacy has been allowed in the country. That is, a woman who conceives for a couple will do this with her desire and philanthropy. For this, neither it can be strengthened, nor can it be lured. There is a complete ban on commercial surrogacy in India and it also includes a sentence of 10 years and a fine of 10 lakhs. According to this law, only married couples can get child happiness through surrogacy. In the couple, the age of the man should be between 26 years to 55 years and the age of the woman should be between 23 and 50 years. Not only this, unmarried girls cannot become a mother through surrogacy.
Which states have legal surrogacy
In India, the Central Government has enacted a law regarding surrogacy, which applies to all states. Surrogacy in India is legal in many states, including states like Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan. Now Bihar has also joined these states, surrogacy has also got legal recognition, as well as surrogacy monitoring board has been formed.
