Sushila Karki’s spouse’s plane hijack connection
In the 1973 era, there was a significant turn in the history of Nepal. At that time, efforts to restore democracy in the country were fast. Girija Prasad (GP) Koirala was leading the armed struggle for this. During that time, he needed a huge amount for the purchase of weapons. At the same time, in June 1973, an aircraft of Nepal Airlines was kidnapped. The aircraft was going from Viratnagar to Kathmandu and had cash of about 40 lakh rupees, which was being sent to the Central Bank of Nepal.
The hijackers then forced the aircraft to landed in Farbisganj, Bihar, India. The cash was withdrawn from there and the amount was allegedly handed over to GP Koirala. Later, the same incident was considered important for Nepal’s democratic movement, because later democracy returned and Koirala became Prime Minister four times.
Sushila Karki’s journey to Bhu and Durga Subedi
In the case of this hijack, the names of four workers associated with Nepal Congress came to light. One of them was Durga Prasad Subedi. However, later Durga Subedi’s life went in a different direction. He remained associated with education and politics and later became Sushila Karki’s life partner.
Sushila Karki was born in Baratnagar. He moved to India for studies and earned a postgraduate degree in Political Science from Banaras Hindu University (BHU) in Varanasi in 1975. After this she returned to Nepal and entered the judicial service after getting education education from Tribhuvan University.
Interestingly, it is said that Sushila Karki and Durga Subedi also met during the days of BHU. Subedi was his teacher at that time and later both became partners of life. Sushila Karki said during an interview that Durga was a reliable guide and friend in her difficult time.
