Sushmita surprised her fans when she adopted daughter Rene at the age of 24 without marrying. Sushmita Sen wanted to adopt a daughter. She was ready to adopt her daughter to such an extent that if the judge did not give a decision in her favour, she was planning to run away with the child.
Sushmita Sen’s plan was to run away with her daughter.
Sushmita started the process of adopting a girl child at the age of 21. But by the time the final decision came, she had turned 24. In an interview with Dr Sheen Gurrib, Sushmita Sen said, ‘When I became a legal adult at the age of 21, I knew that this is what I wanted to do, so from the age of 21 to 24, the legal battle started. Once it started, I had at least one child through foster care. But you live with the trauma of what will happen if the family court does not give a decision in your favour? They could have taken the child from you. The child started calling you mother. So I had a plan. My plan was that I could run away with the child.
Sushmita further said, ‘I told my father to keep the car ready. We will leave with the child. Now we are pulling it. We are not going to do anything like that. But I felt that they cannot take my child from me.
Well, in the end Sushmita got the custody of her daughter Rene.
