The year 2025 once again proved that Indian customers are now completely inclined towards SUVs. Whether traveling on city roads or covering long distances on the highway, people are preferring SUVs over sedans and hatchbacks. The biggest reason for this was the relief in prices, especially the reduction in GST, due to which SUVs became more affordable than before. As soon as the prices came down, there was a tremendous surge in demand.
Record sales of Tata Nexon and Hyundai Creta
- SUVs achieved the top position in the list of best selling cars in 2025. Tata Nexon once again performed brilliantly and maintained its strong hold in the compact SUV segment. At the same time, Hyundai Creta remained the best selling SUV in the segment above 4 meters. The demand for these two vehicles was so high that waiting period was seen for several months. Affordable price, reliable brand and good features made them the first choice of customers.
Condition of Punch, Brezza and Fronx
- Apart from Nexon and Creta, Tata Punch, Maruti Brezza and Maruti Frontex also recorded excellent sales in 2025. Tata Punch was very popular especially among the customers buying entry-level SUVs. At the same time, Brezza and Frontex kept Maruti Suzuki strong in the SUV segment. These vehicles have shown that one can easily get the SUV experience even in a low budget.
Mahindra becomes a strong player in SUV segment
- 2025 was also great for SUV specialist Mahindra. The popularity of Scorpio N and XUV700 remained intact and their sales continued to increase. The special thing about Mahindra is that it focuses almost entirely on SUVs. Not only this, the company’s electric SUVs also became increasingly popular in the EV segment, which includes models like XEV 9e. Mahindra is preparing to further expand its SUV range in the coming times.
The growing craze of Maruti and Tata Sierra
- Maruti Suzuki is also rapidly expanding its SUV line-up. The new Victoris overtook its sibling Grand Vitara as soon as it came into the market. Both the models together gave Maruti the lead again in the SUV segment above 4 meters. At the same time, the tremendous craze shown for Tata Sierra is an indication of how excited people are about the future SUVs. Opening of more than 70,000 bookings for Sierra shows that there is going to be a stir in the SUV segment in 2026 also.
- Let us tell you that in 2025, SUVs have made it clear that their dominance in the Indian market is going to last for a long time. Better road presence, more space, safety and now affordable prices have made SUVs the choice of buyers of every category. It seems that India has fallen in love with SUVs and this trend will only get stronger in the coming years.
