The clash that took place between the police and the followers of a saint in Prayagraj during the Magh Mela now seems to be becoming a big deal. Swami Avimukteshwaranand’s troubles may increase in this entire episode. The administration has clearly stated that the conduct was against tradition without permission and action will be taken on the basis of CCTV footage.

Prayagraj Police Commissioner Jogendra Kumar said that Swami Avimukteshwarananda reached the area around 9 am with about 200 of his followers, which was closed a day earlier due to security reasons. His followers tried to move forward by breaking the barrier and there was a scuffle with the police. CCTV footage of this entire incident is available.

Swamy’s supporters kept the road closed for three hours

According to the Police Commissioner, Swami Avimukteshwaranand was insisting on going to Sangam Nose, even though there was a huge crowd there at that time. Due to fog in the morning, the Sangam area is most crowded between 9 and 10 am. The police tried to explain that moving forward with 200 people and a chariot could lead to a stampede, but they did not agree. It is alleged that his supporters tried to create chaos by pushing small children forward and the return route was also blocked for about three hours, causing a lot of trouble to the common people.

Swamy’s supporters clash with police

Prayagraj District Magistrate Manish Kumar Verma said that contrary to tradition, he (Swami Avimukteshwaranand) had come on his palanquin without permission to take bath at the Sangam. There was a huge crowd at the Sangam at that time. Despite repeated requests, they came here without permission and remained adamant on their insistence, this was wrong. Many other aspects have also come to our notice that his supporters broke barriers and scuffled with the police, so we are investigating the entire matter. We will investigate all aspects and take legal action.

Avimukteshwaranand had brought the palanquin without any permission.

Divisional Commissioner of Prayagraj Division Soumya Aggarwal said that Swami Avimukteshwaranand had come here with about 200 of his followers riding on his palanquin, contrary to tradition and without any permission, there was a huge crowd at the Sangam. There was a crowd of crores here, they broke the barrier and blocked our return route for 3 hours which caused a lot of inconvenience to the common people.

Avimukteshwaranand sat on strike after the controversy

The controversy has deepened in the case related to Shankaracharya Avimukteshwarananda Saraswati in Prayagraj. Shankaracharya has sat on strike in his camp after the dispute with the police administration during Magh Mela. He has clearly said that he will not take a bath in the Ganga until the police and administration take him to Sangam with respect and as per the prescribed protocol. Expressing displeasure over the attitude of the administration, Shankaracharya has invited the media for a press conference in his camp. After this incident, discussions have intensified regarding the arrangements of Magh Mela and the role of administration.
