The five-match T20 series between India and South Africa will start from December 9, in which all eyes will be on the fitness and availability of Shubman Gill. On Wednesday, the committee headed by Ajit Agarkar will hold a meeting in Raipur, so that the 15-member team can be decided.
Shubman Gill was injured after hitting a four in the test match against South Africa. Gill could not play the next match of the series after neck injury. After this he had to sit out of the ODI series also.
IANS has learned that Gill has reached the BCCI Center of Excellence in Bengaluru on Tuesday for rehab. The Indian team will unite for the T20 series on December 6, so the selectors will have to choose the team on Wednesday. At present, Gill’s chances of playing in the T20 series are 50 percent.
A source told IANS, “Gill may try batting and see how he feels regarding his fitness before taking a decision on his inclusion in the upcoming series.”
If Shubman Gill does not play in the T20 series against South Africa, then Sanju Samson or Yashasvi Jaiswal can be seen as an opening batsman along with Abhishek Sharma. Sanju Samson played only two matches in the T20 series against Australia, in which he got a chance to bat once. During this time he batted at ‘number 3’.
It is expected that seam-bowling all-rounder Hardik Pandya can also be included in this T20 series. Pandya scored unbeaten 77 runs after taking 1 wicket against Punjab in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy on Tuesday. On the basis of Pandya’s brilliant innings, Baroda won the match by 7 wickets. Pandya was chosen ‘Player of the Match’.
The five-match T20 series between India and South Africa will start from December 9. The first match will be played in Cuttack, after which the second match of the series will be played in New Chandigarh on 11 December. The third match will be held in Dharamshala on 14 December, while Lucknow will host the fourth match of the series on 17 December. The final match of the series is to be played in Ahmedabad on 19 December.
