US President Donald Trump has congratulated the USA cricket team participating in the T20 World Cup 2026. This tournament is being played hosted by India and Sri Lanka, in which a total of 20 teams are participating. USA is also one of these teams. The tournament started on 7 February, while the final match will be played on 8 March.
Donald Trump wrote on his social media platform Truth Social, ‘I just came to know that the Cricket World Cup has started in India. I wish Team USA all the best. Our team is very strong. The whole of America is with you. This message of Trump is considered to be encouraging for the USA team. USA has been placed in Group A, where it competes with teams like India, Pakistan, Namibia and Netherlands. USA started its campaign against India on 7 February at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
USA gave tough competition to India
USA gave a tough fight to India in the first match of T20 World Cup 2026, but in the end India won by 29 runs. Batting first, India did not have a good start and the team lost 4 wickets for 46 runs in the powerplay itself. Abhishek Sharma could not even open an account. USA bowlers put pressure on India in the initial overs. After this Suryakumar Yadav played a brilliant innings. He scored unbeaten 84 runs on 49 balls, which included 10 fours and 4 sixes. Thanks to his innings, India could reach 161 runs for 9 wickets. This was Suryakumar’s fourth half-century in his fifth T20 innings as captain.
USA bowled brilliantly
Shadley Van Schalkwyk performed best for USA by taking 4 wickets. In reply, the Indian bowlers also played brilliantly and restricted the USA team to 132 runs for 8 wickets. Mohammad Siraj played an important role in India’s victory by taking 3 wickets.
