On Sunday (August 17, 2025), BJP -led NDA, Maharashtra Governor C.P. Radhakrishnan has been declared the party’s candidate. The name came out after the BJP’s Parliamentary Board meeting, which was approved by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister Amit Shah.
CP Radhakrishnan (Chandrapuram Ponnusamy Radhakrishnan) received the post of Governor of Maharashtra on 31 July 2024. According to the website of Maharashtra Raj Bhavan, before Maharashtra, CP Radhakrishnan served as the Governor of Jharkhand. Within the first four months of being appointed as the Governor of Jharkhand in 2023, CP Radhakrishnan visited all 24 districts of the state and interacted with citizens and district officials.
BJP has served as state president
Before becoming the Governor of Jharkhand, he worked as BJP state president in Tamil Nadu from 2004 to 2007. During his service as Tamil Nadu BJP President, between 2004 and 2007, CP Radhakrishnan did a 19,000 km ‘Rath Yatra’, which lasted for 93 days.
The yatra was organized on its demands like connecting Indian rivers, abolition of terrorism, implementing uniform civil code, prevention of untouchability and dealing with drug threats. At the same time, he led two more padyatras on many issues. Shri Radhakrishnan is a respected name in Tamil Nadu politics and public life.

In 1996, CP Radhakrishnan was appointed as Secretary of Tamil Nadu BJP. In 1998, he was elected to the Lok Sabha from Coimbatore for the first time. In 1999, he was again elected to the Lok Sabha. Born in Tiruppur, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra Governor CP Radhakrishnan has graduated in Business Administration. According to the information, he has been a member of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh and was also a member of the State Executive of Bharatiya Jana Sangh in 1974.

According to the website, apart from his political journey, CP Radhakrishnan has also registered a name in the sports world. Radhakrishnan was also a college champion and long -range runner at table tennis. He is also fond of cricket and volleyball. CP Radhakrishnan has also been a member of the parliamentary special committee investigating the stock exchange scam.
Explain that amidst speculation of the party candidate, the Election Commission had announced that elections for the post of Vice President will be held on 9 September. According to the information issued by the Election Commission, the last date for filing nomination is 21 August and the documents will be examined on 22 August.
