The Central Government has taken a big initiative with the aim of providing timely treatment to those injured in road accidents. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved the PM Relief Scheme. Under this scheme, people injured in road accidents will get cashless treatment up to a maximum of Rs 1.5 lakh for seven days. According to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, this scheme will be applicable to every eligible victim of an accident on any category of road in the country. That is, in case of an accident at any place on the national highway, state road or rural road, the injured person will be able to avail the benefit of this facility. Terms and conditions related to PM Relief Scheme

Under the PM Relief Scheme, the government will bear the expenses of up to Rs 1.5 lakh per person for seven days from the date of the accident. Payment will be made directly to the hospital from the Motor Vehicle Accident Fund. Under this scheme, stabilization treatment will be provided for 24 hours in most cases that are not life threatening and for 48 hours in serious cases. Even after this, the facility of cashless treatment will continue within a period of seven days. This entire process will be done through an integrated digital system, in which police authentication will be necessary. In cases which are not serious, police confirmation will be required within 24 hours and in serious cases within 48 hours, so that the treatment continues without any interruption and accountability can also be ensured.

Emphasis on treatment during golden hour

According to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, every year a large number of people in the country lose their lives in road accidents, many of whom die due to not getting timely treatment. Research has revealed that if the injured are taken to the hospital within the first hour of the accident i.e. the golden hour, then about 50 percent of deaths can be prevented. For this purpose, 112 helpline has been linked to the emergency response system. Road accident victims, passers-by or any person present at the spot can dial 112 to get information about the nearest designated hospital and seek ambulance help.
